Mommy Savers

I just joined Mommy Savers yesterday and I am in love. They have great resources and even a forum to talk to others who are trying to save. I am always trying to think of how we are going to get rid of our debt, mainly student loans. I know they are good debt and we have good jobs because of them, but I hate them. That is $700 a month that is going out the door from our paychecks monthly. We could be doing so many things with that money, like putting it in savings!

So, I am going to focus on this. My first step is to start doing the "Forget the Joneses 2008" project. I skipped ahead some of the steps today because they were available to read through. I am going to start the spending freeze when we come back from our weekend getaway. I have already figured out our net worth, and yes we are in the positive!!! But not as far as I would like. I think this is a good start.

One positive about this weekend is that we are going to go pay off my husband's car loan! This is our first major step towards getting out of debt. The next one is sending in the paper work for my Perkins loan to be canceled. It is only $3000 but that is $70 a month I could be putting towards some of my husband's student loans that still have 13+ years on them. My goal is to have them done in 7-8 years instead. By then, we may be able to buy a house closer to work that is slightly larger. Yes a bigger house would be nice, but the real benefit is saving on gas. That would also allow us more time with our children!

I think this is a good start. Hope you join me for this adventure towards financial freedom.
